Dear friends
There is a quiet danger in believing we must carry our lamps alone.
That to be faithful, we must be self sufficient.
That to be strong, we never need help.
Even fire needs tending and thus lamps burn steadier when cared for by more than one hand.
In the wilderness, the Israelites were guided by a pillar of fire together. In the upper room, the Spirit came as tongues of flame, not on one, but on all.
The light we carry is personal, but it was never meant to be private.
“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds… encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
— Hebrews 10:24–25
We are co tenders of light ~ companions in a world that can be cold and shadowed.
Sometimes our flame will burn bright and steady and someone else will come close to it for warmth.
Other times, it will flicker and someone’s nearness will shield it from the wind.
This is how we keep going.
Not by being invincible, but by being willing to walk beside others with tenderness, care and honesty.
So reach out, let someone in today.
Let yourself be held as much as you hold.
To tend the fire together is a holy thing and in doing so, we become not just light bearers, but keepers of one another’s hope.
With warmth and solidarity today and everyday,
